Also known as the Sibley Tent after US Army officer Henry Hopkins Sibley who patented the design, this large field tent could house around a dozen soldiers. Bell tents featured a central pole along with a vented escape cap allowing the smoke from a stove to exit the living area. Unfortunately for Sibley he would not see royalty payments for the 44,000 tents purchased by the US Army as he had turned coat and defected to the Confederacy…
